Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week travel assignment in Illinois at a Level I trauma hospital. Active IL RN license, BLS and NIHSS required, with at least 1 year Med/Surg experience. This role includes 3x12 hour days, every other weekend, and floating to related units as needed.

Solid color scrubs allowed, comprehensive benefits, and travel support for first-time travelers are provided. Local candidates and those with Cerner experience are especially encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license required and must be in hand (no pending licenses accepted)
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg nursing experience required
• Preferred skills include cardiac monitoring, telemetry, and rapid response team experience
• Preferred experience with post-angiogram and post-MI cardiovascular cases
• Preferred experience with IV insulin protocols
• Preferred GI experience including colostomy care and feeding tube management
• Preferred renal experience including pre/post hemodialysis management
• Preferred IV therapy and phlebotomy skills, including PICC line and central line management
• Preferred medication administration experience with Heparin, Insulin, and PCA
• Preferred neuro/psych experience including CVA and pre/post neurosurgery care
• Preferred ortho trauma and surgical drain experience
• Preferred respiratory skills including chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, and HFNC
• Preferred wound care and isolation precaution experience
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Cerner experience preferred
• Level I Trauma center experience preferred
• SSN and DOB required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Medical Surgical unit in an acute care hospital setting
• Average daily census of 21 with 1:5 patient ratios on days, nights, and weekends
• Day shift schedule: 3x12 hours, 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
• Required to work every other weekend
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to other Med/Surg and similar units as needed
• Cerner charting system used
• Provide direct patient care in a 562-bed Level I trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital
• Any solid color scrubs permitted
• Parking permit provided at no cost, arranged during orientation
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
• Previous permanent or PRN employees must have a 12-month separation before returning as a traveler
• Floating required to hospital units or nearby affiliate facilities
• RTO ideally limited to 5 days or fewer
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Facility can cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay
