Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking a Med/Surg RN for a night shift in an infectious disease unit with prior travel experience and EPIC EMR proficiency. Active WV or compact RN license and BLS are required, along with a minimum of 2 years in Med/Surg and travel nursing experience.

Responsibilities include caring for an 18-bed all-private Med/Surg/ID unit, managing IV meds, and coordinating with a 24/7 charge nurse. Travel and housing allowances are provided.

Qualifications

• Active WV or compact RN license required.
• BLS (AHA) certification required.
• Minimum 2 years of experience required.
• Prior travel nursing experience required.
• EPIC EMR experience required.
• Strong knowledge of MedSurg and infectious disease/isolation precautions required.
• Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration.

Responsibilities

• Acute care Med/Surg/Infectious Disease unit with 18 all-private rooms.
• Patient ratios of 1:5-6, or 1:4 for COVID patients, typically staffed with 3-4 RNs per shift.
• Treated infectious disease, isolation, COVID, MRSA, C-Diff, and other related diagnoses.
• No cardiac drip titration required; manages Heparin and other typical MedSurg IV medications and antibiotics.
• Unit supported by 24/7 Charge Nurse and 2 CNAs per shift.
• No ventilator management; may have patients on CPAP, BiPAP, or High Flow managed by RT.
• Remote telemetry monitoring from 3rd floor desk; RNs not required to read or interpret strips.
• EPIC EMR used for charting.
• 12-hour night shifts from 1900-0730 with a half-hour lunch break.
• Every-other-weekend requirement with Friday/Saturday/Sunday night shifts.
• Travelers are first to float, with floating required to any MedSurg unit and to Tele within skillset if needed.
• May be called off for low census depending on contract terms.
• Provide direct patient care for infectious disease and isolation patients in a Med/Surg setting.
• Holiday coverage may be required depending on unit staffing needs.
• 1 day of EPIC orientation followed by 1 day with a preceptor, then independent on day 3.

• Scrub color is royal blue; scrub jackets optional but must be official scrub jackets in royal blue (no hoodies or sweat-jackets)
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for travel rate
• Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one year without taking a 2-year break; cumulative experience applies
• Client may cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week assignment
