Job summary

Job description

American Traveler is hiring a RN for a Med/Surg unit position requiring 1 year of experience and a WV or compact RN license.

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• CNA certification or ability to complete PCT class may be applicable depending on unit needs

Responsibilities

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with 48 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5-7 on days and 1:6-8 on nights
• Common diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness
• RNs titrate drips such as heparin, bumex, and lasix, excluding cardiac drips
• PCTs support the unit at a ratio of approximately 1:10-12, handling vitals, BGMs, EKGs, bathing, feeding, toileting, and repositioning
• RT manages respiratory equipment including BiPap, CPap, and high flow O2, with RNs responsible only for monitoring
• Dedicated monitor tech reads telemetry strips; RNs are not required to interpret tele
• Uses EPIC charting system
• 12-hour day shifts, 7a-7p, with every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage on a rotation basis for RNs
• Floating required to other Med Surg, Med Surg-Tele, or IMC units for lower acuity patients
• No call or standby requirements
• Schedule set by manager; no self-scheduling or block scheduling
• Daily duties include direct patient care and drip titration excluding cardiac drips
• Unit has 2 charge nurses on day shift who also carry patient assignments; night shift charge nurse carries an assignment only if 2 are scheduled
• 1 day of educator/computer system orientation plus 1 day with a preceptor
• Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius to be eligible as a traveler
• Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers are limited to a maximum of 1 cumulative year working within WVU facilities, followed by a required 2-year break
• Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
