Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position in Illinois. Telemetry monitoring and an active IL RN license are required. Expect 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM on a 16-bed Med/Surg unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio.

Ideal candidates have 3-5 years of nursing experience, BLS and PALS certifications, and strong assessment and critical thinking skills. Travel housing and related per diems are provided, with opportunities for floating to

• 3-5 years of nursing experience required, ideally in a rural hospital setting.
• Required certifications: BLS and PALS.
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills required.
• Telemetry monitoring experience essential.
• Experience with outpatient infusions preferred.

Responsibilities

• 16-bed Med/Surg acute care unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio.
• Patient population includes respiratory conditions (COPD, pneumonia), cellulitis, CHF, and surgical cases such as colon resections and orthopedic procedures.
• Uses Nihon Kohden telemetry monitoring, with RNs responsible for interpreting their own strips.
• Access to high-flow oxygen and Vapotherm; more complex respiratory support such as BiPAP is transferred to ICU.
• Uses Cerner EMR.
• 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
• Schedules posted 6 weeks in advance with accommodation for traveler preferences.
• Weekend commitment of every other or every third weekend.
• No mandatory call or holiday requirements, though volunteer opportunities are available.
• Floating opportunities available as a safety sitter or in other supportive roles.
• Support staff includes 1 CNA, a clinical care coordinator, and a charge nurse who takes patient assignments.
• House supervisor available to support the team on weekends.
• Deliver compassionate nursing care across a diverse patient population with high turnover and frequent admissions and discharges.
• Collaborate closely with a small, supportive care team.
• Comprehensive first-week orientation includes HR processes, infection control training, equipment familiarization, and hands-on experience with a preceptor.
• Dress code requires pewter scrub tops with black shoes and pants; colored tops acceptable if layered with a pewter outer garment.
• Strong focus on thorough charting due to commitment to quality care and lower patient ratios.
