American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Acute unit in Illinois. Active IL license, BLS, and Epic experience are required.

The role covers 23-bed and 14-bed units with telemetry, 12-hour shifts, and rotating weekends/holidays. Local candidates accepted; travel and housing support offered.

Qualifications

• Active IL RN license required.
• Current BLS certification (AHA).
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required.
• EPIC EMR experience required.
• Must pass a negative drug screen for all panels (Drug-Free Campus).

Responsibilities

• Staff a 23-bed Med/Surg Acute unit (4th floor) and 14-bed unit (3rd floor).
• Care for NSTEMI, COPD, pneumonia, sepsis, and AKI.
• Patient ratios typically 1:5, up to 1:7 with PCT support 1:8.
• Telemetry monitoring with dedicated monitor techs; RN sign-offs each shift.
• Uses EPIC EMR throughout shift.
• 12-hour day/night shifts (7A-7P/7P-7A) with rotation every other weekend/holiday.
• Floating to ICU/ER/BHC only if experienced; otherwise no floating.
• No on-call requirement; potential for low census.

Responsibilities

• Work on a 23-bed (4th floor) and 14-bed (3rd floor) Medical Surgical Acute unit
• Common diagnoses include NSTEMI, COPD, pneumonia, sepsis, and AKI
• Patient ratios typically 1:5, up to 1:7, with PCT support at 1:8
• Telemetry monitoring on the unit with dedicated monitor techs reading strips; RNs sign off throughout shift
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour day/night shifts (7A-7P/7P-7A)
• Every other weekend and every other holiday rotation typically required
• Charge nurse/house supervisor support available
• Floating to ICU, ER, or BHC only if candidate has relevant experience; otherwise no floating required out of Med Surg
• Low census possible but rare; no on-call requirement
• RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg Acute unit with a mix of complex diagnoses
• One shift of department-specific orientation provided, including an informational binder
• Scrubs of any color accepted; closed-toed shoes and good hygiene required
• Local candidates accepted; local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
• COVID vaccination not required for this facility
