Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a rural LDRP setting in California. CA licensure and fetal monitoring expertise are required, with 5 years of L&D experience and obstetric trauma familiarity.

The role supports a Family Birth Center with 1:4 patient load, inpatient postpartum and newborn care, and 24/7 coverage. Day shifts, weekend rotations, and travel requirements apply, with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license required.
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, and Fetal Monitoring.
• AWHONN Advanced and AWHONN Intermediate certifications preferred.
• 5 years of Labor & Delivery experience required.
• Community hospital experience preferred.
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and administration of blood and blood products.
• Experience assisting with high risk and vaginal deliveries, including forceps/vacuum extraction.
• Proficient in fetal monitoring including external and internal fetal monitoring and IUPC placement.
• Experience with postpartum care including cesarean section, couplet care, and postpartum hemorrhage management.
• Skilled in newborn care including newborn assessment, thermoregulation, and phototherapy.
• Experience managing high-risk medications including Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin, and Terbutaline.
• 2 supervisor references obtained within the past year required.

Responsibilities

• Family Birth Center providing labor and delivery, postpartum, and newborn care including newborn stabilization for transport.
• Rural LDRP setting averaging approximately 225 births annually.
• Patient ratio of 1:4.
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 07:00-19:00.
• Every other weekend required.
• Provide comprehensive care across labor and delivery, postpartum, and newborn services in a team-oriented environment.
• Assist with high risk antepartum care, triage of obstetrical patients, and NSTs.
• Support breastfeeding and lactation, baby-friendly protocols, and discharge teaching to parents.
• Perform neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR scoring and cord sample collection.
• Maximum RTO of 7 days per contract, with only 1 holiday request allowed.
• Holiday coverage required for New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
• Must complete lab work within 3-5 days of contract signing.
• Local candidates accepted within a 50-mile radius at the local rate.
• Returning staff must have a one-year separation before returning as a traveler.
• First-time travelers are not preferred for this position.
