Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN with strong vasoactive drip and telemetry skills for a night shift stepdown/ICCU position requiring a NC or compact license.
Details
- ICU stepdown/ICCU unit with 20 beds and an average daily census of 18
- Target patient ratio of 1:3-4
- Patient population includes post rapid response, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, post-op GYN/GU/GI/thoracotomy/neuro/ortho surgeries, and pre/post OB with complications
- Patient population ranges from adolescent to geriatric
- 12-hour night shifts (18:45-07:15) on a 3x12 schedule
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required as needed to a sister ICCU unit
- No block scheduling; schedule created by nurse manager
- Only one pressor drip per patient allowed on unit; additional pressors require ICU transfer
- Uses Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo drips
- Bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup used on unit
- No ventilators on unit
- Uses Pyxis and Epic systems
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license/certifications OK for consideration
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
- Experience with arterial line management and titrating vasoactive/cardiac drips required
- Experience with PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown and telemetry units required
- Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with Rapid Response/Code team protocols required
- Experience with IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, and heparin protocols required
- Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management experience required
- Experience managing chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and nasal cannula required
- Non-invasive airway management and tracheostomy care/management experience required
- Isolation precautions/PPE experience required
- IV start, telemetry monitoring, and conscious sedation experience required
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Additional Information
- Monitor and treat cardiac dysrhythmias using bedside telemetry with remote backup
- Provide rapid response and stepdown-level care to a medically complex patient population
- One week of hospital orientation required with daily class attendance
- Navy, white, or a combination of navy and white scrubs required
- Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
- No RTO permitted during first week of assignment; up to 7 days RTO auto-approved thereafter (excluding holidays)
- No additional RTO allowed after signing
- First-time travelers welcome to apply
- Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
- Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying and disclose employment history for facility approval
- Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between per diem or travel contract status
- Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
