American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a Whole House Float position covering ICU, PCU, and MS units at a Level I trauma teaching hospital, requiring VA or compact RN licensure.   • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care, arterial line management, and blood product administration
  • Proficient in trach management, non-invasive airway support, ventilator management, and chest tube care
  • Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • EPIC charting system experience required
  • Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred

  • Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2 weeks

Description

  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, ideally from a large Level I or II trauma facility
  • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care/management, arterial line management, and blood product administration required
  • Proficient in trach management, non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP), ventilator management, and chest tube care (Emerson/PleurEvac)
  • Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Experience with IV insulin protocols and 12-lead EKG/ECG acquisition preferred
  • EPIC charting system experience required
  • Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
Additional Information
  • Work in a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital, the region's only Level I Trauma Center for adults and pediatrics
  • Magnet-designated facility affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
  • Provide direct patient care across ICU, PCU, and MS units based on daily staffing needs
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates within 100 miles (measured from driver's license address) are not accepted
  • Candidates residing 50-99.9 miles away may be considered for one 13-week assignment with no extension eligibility
  • Candidates residing less than 50 miles away may be considered for one 13-week assignment at a lower bill rate with no extension eligibility
  • Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year gap before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period, with exceptions reviewed case-by-case by facility leadership
  • All RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted upfront with the application
