Job summary

American Traveler is recruiting an ICU RN for a 13-week travel assignment in Towson, MD. Requires 2+ years ICU experience and an active MD or Compact RN license. Role includes rotating 3x12 shifts, floating to IMC/CSU, and no on-call requirement.

The position offers comprehensive critical care exposure, ventilator management, CRRT, and advanced CV/neuro skills in a fast-paced inpatient setting.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (MD or Compact) required
• Current BLS, ACLS, CPI, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years ICU experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, central and PICC line care, and blood product administration
• Experience with ventilator management, ABG interpretation, BiPAP/CPAP, and suctioning
• Cardiovascular skills including CABG, post cardiac surgery care, Swan-Ganz monitoring, and sheath removal
• Experience managing CRRT/CVVHD and acute/chronic renal failure patients
• Titration of vasoactive and cardiac drips required
• Neurological care experience including EVD, ICP monitoring, and post-craniotomy management
• Proficient in dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Comfortable administering continuous IV sedation and neuromuscular blockade

Responsibilities

• ICU care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
• Diagnoses include MICU, SICU, neuro cervical spine, post-ops, cardiac medical, MI, chest pain, pneumonia, sepsis, ARDS, cardiogenic shock, OD, post cath
• Patient ratio 1:2, up to 1:3 for lower acuity
• Utilizes vents, CRRT, IABP, and proning therapy
• Administers pressors and sedation drugs including Epi, Lido, Milrinone, Precedex, Cleviprex, Nicardipine, Propofol
• Epic charting system experience preferred
• Shifts: rotating 3x12 hours (07:00-19:30 / 19:00-07:30)
• Every other weekend; holiday coverage as scheduled
• Floating to IMC, CSU, and other units as needed
• No on-call requirement; pickup shifts may occur
• Provide comprehensive critical care for multisystem ICU needs
• Exposure to CRRT Next Stage, IABP, proning therapy; experience preferred
• Candidates must be comfortable floating within scope with no scheduling restrictions
• Travelers prioritized for floating assignments
• First-time travelers not considered; former staff return rules apply
• RTO limited; more than 4 consecutive days require extra week at contract end

• Diagnoses include MICU, SICU surgical abdominal, neuro cervical spine, post-ops, cardiac medical, MI, chest pain, pneumonia, sepsis, ARDS, cardiogenic shock, OD, and post cath (no trauma cases)
• Patient ratio of 1:2, up to 1:3 for lower acuity patients
• Utilizes vents, CRRT, IABP, and proning therapy for patient care
• Administers pressors and sedation drugs including Epi, Lido, Milrinone, Precedex, Cleviprex, Nicardipine, and Propofol
• Epic charting system experience preferred
• Rotating day/night shifts, 3x12 hours (07:00-19:30 / 19:00-07:30), primarily days with rotating nights based on department needs
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required as scheduled
• Floating required to IMC, CSU, and other specialty or lower acuity units as needed
• No on-call requirement, though pickup shifts may be requested if core staff cancels
• Provide comprehensive critical care to ICU patients with complex multisystem needs
• Support includes exposure to CRRT Next Stage, IABP, and proning therapy, with experience preferred
• Candidates must be comfortable floating within scope with no scheduling restrictions
• Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments
• First‑time travelers are not being considered for this role
• Former staff must be separated from the health system for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
• Returning travelers must have at least a 6-month break from the system before reassignment
• Candidates residing under 50 miles from the facility are not accepted unless otherwise specified
• Maximum of 7 days RTO can be requested; more than 4 consecutive days requires an added week at the end of the contract
