Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a Surgical ICU using the nursing process.
• Maintain 1:2 patient ratio during night shifts (3x12s, 1900-0730).
• Participate in weekend rotations and Epic charting system usage.
• Collaborate with nursing peers, physicians, and support services.
• Support families and address physical, psychosocial, safety, rehabilitative, and learning needs.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Surgical Intensive Care Unit position requiring an active CA RN license and 2 years of ICU experience.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care, and PICC line management
• Skilled in blood product administration and starting/maintaining IVs
• Skilled in ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP management, and care of ventilated patients
• Skilled in chest tube insertion/removal assistance and ABG interpretation
• Skilled in ETT and NT suctioning and high flow nasal cannula management
• Skilled in titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Experience with continuous IV sedation and neuromuscular blockade
• Experience with procedural sedation administration and monitoring
• Experience with emergency medication administration
• Skilled in CVA/acute stroke management
• Experience with GI surgery patient care
• Skilled in isolation precautions/PPE and infection prevention
• Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and 12-lead EKG acquisition
• Experience managing patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
• Experience with IV insulin protocols
• 2 supervisor references obtained within the past year required for consideration
• Copies of all certifications required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Surgical Intensive Care Unit setting
• 1:2 patient ratio
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 1900-0730
• Weekend rotation required
• Epic charting system experience required
• Provide direct patient care using the nursing process across assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
• Address physical, psycho-social, safety, rehabilitative, and learning needs of patients and families
• Collaborate with nursing peers, physicians, and allied support services
• Manage care of assigned patients and direct activities of ancillary staff
• Local candidates accepted at local rate within a 50-mile radius
• Returning employees must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible to return as a traveler
• Maximum RTO of 7 days per contract
• Only 1 holiday may be requested off per contract, with coverage required for New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day
• Must be available to complete lab work within 3-5 days of contract signing
• 7-year work history verification required for all candidates
