Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment in California. Requires active CA RN license, vent and drip management, and critical care skills.

Responsibilities include 12-hour night shifts, 2:1 patient ratio, Cerner EMR usage, and rotating to Tele/ED ICU as needed. Orientation and travel benefits are included.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years ICU experience; 3 years preferred.
• Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) in hand.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.

• Provide direct critical care nursing to a high-acuity ICU patient population.
• 12-hour night shifts (1830-0700).
• Patient ratio 2:1; rotate to Tele units and ED ICU/Tele holds as needed.
• First to float to Tele and ED ICU/Tele holds.
• Participate in huddle and bedside reports.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring an active CA RN license and critical care skills including vent and drip management.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) currently in hand, active at time of consideration
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; 3 years preferred
• Experience managing drips including pressors, antiarrhythmics, and sedation
• Ventilator management experience required
• Experience with higher-acuity patient populations including neuro, cardiac, PCI, sepsis, ETOH, and stroke
• Experience with Ventrics, TBI, and Camino ICP monitoring preferred
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Acute care ICU setting with 32 staffed beds (licensed for 40), configured in pods of 8
• Patient ratio of 2:1
• Uses Cerner EMR
• 12-hour night shifts (1830-0700)
• Every other weekend required
• First to float, including to Tele units and ED ICU/Tele holds
• Charge Nurse role does not carry a patient assignment; a Resource RN may take patients
• Nurse Aide support typically available on day shift only
• No dedicated tele/monitor techs; RNs read and interpret their own telemetry strips
• No IV team; Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
• In-house Hospitalist or Intensivist coverage available
• Floor-specific orientation includes 8 hours with an ICU educator and preceptor time over the first two days
• Provide direct critical care nursing to a high-acuity ICU patient population
• Participate in huddle report and bedside report
• Rotates holidays with core staff; must be available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Scrub color requirement: Navy Blue for RNs
• No acrylic nails or gel polish allowed during the assignment
• Orientation available on 10/12 or 11/9 only
