Responsibilities

  • Provide high-acuity ICU nursing care including neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular and renal patient management.
  • Manage ventilated patients, BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes and ABGs interpretation.
  • Perform IV therapy, arterial line care and central/peripheral line care.
  • Adhere to PPE/isolation precautions and wound care.
  • Float to ICU and related lower-acuity areas as needed.

Description

American Traveler is hiring an ICU RN for a night shift assignment requiring MD or Compact RN license and at least 2 years of ICU/IMC experience.

Details
  • ICU unit within a hospital setting
  • Patient population includes adult and geriatric ICU patients with lower acuity MS/Tele overflow
  • Patient ratio of 1:3, up to 1:4 with lower acuity telemetry or med/surg patients
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours (20:00-08:30)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday coverage required as scheduled
  • Floating required to ICU and within specialty/lower acuity areas as needed
  • No pre-scheduled on-call required
  • Uses Epic charting system
Requirements
  • Active MD or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA only)
  • CPI certification required (Calm Every Storm online version only accepted)
  • NIHSS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU or IMC-level nursing experience required
  • Community hospital experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, arterial line management, central and peripheral line care, and blood product administration
  • Experience managing ventilated patients, BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, and interpreting ABGs
  • Experience with cardiac drip management and dysrhythmia monitoring
  • Experience with wound care and PPE/isolation precautions
Additional Information
  • Provide high-acuity ICU nursing care including neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, and renal patient management
  • High acuity unit accepting first-time travelers with strong ICU/IMC background
  • Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments and should expect no scheduling restrictions
  • Candidates residing under 50 miles from the facility are not accepted unless locals are specifically approved
  • Maximum of 7 days RTO can be requested; requests over 4 consecutive days require an added week at the end of the contract
  • One major holiday off may be allowed during the winter season
  • Returning staff must be separated from the health system for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • Returning travelers must have a 6-month break from the system before returning
  • Typically limited to one contract and one extension before requiring a 6-month break from the facility/unit
  • Compliance labs must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
  • All compliance documents due 5 days prior to start date
