Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a night shift travel assignment in Alabama. You will support a Level 3 Trauma facility's CCU/CVICU, with 2+ years of critical care and AL or compact RN license.

The role requires BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications, plus proficiency with ventilators, arterial lines, chest tubes, and central lines. Night shifts 7P–7A, 36 hours per week, with travel housing and licensure reimbursement.

Qualifications

• Active AL or compact RN license.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Minimum 2 years critical care/ICU experience (5 years preferred).
• Proficiency with IV starts, blood draws, ECG rhythm interpretation, ABG interpretation.
• Experience with ventilators, arterial lines, chest tubes, central lines.
• Ability to assist physicians with bedside procedures and conscious sedation.
• Lifetalent certifications including NIHSS, ACLS/BLS, Moderate Sedation/Analgesia, iStat and glucometer.
• Social Security number and date of birth required.
• Copies of required certifications provided.

Responsibilities

• Critical Care Services unit (2nd Floor) at a Level 3 Trauma facility.
• Adult and geriatric patient population in CCU/CVICU/CCSD.
• Night shift schedule, 7P-7A, 36 hours per week.
• Every other weekend required.
• Uses Meditech EHR for ICU documentation.
• Care for patients with respiratory failure and major cardiac events.
• Support high-acuity ICU skills and cross-coverage as needed.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a night shift travel position requiring 2+ years critical care experience and AL or compact RN license.

Requirements

• Active AL or compact RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of critical care/ICU experience required, 5 years preferred
• Proficiency in IV starts, blood draws, NG tube placement, ECG rhythm interpretation, lab and ABG interpretation, critical care drips and titrations
• Experience managing ventilators, arterial lines, chest tubes, and central venous lines including large-volume Vas Caths
• Ability to assist physicians with bedside procedures and conscious sedation
• Smartphone required for physician communication via TigerConnect app
• Completion of Lifetalent online learning assignments including NIHSS, ACLS/BLS, Moderate Sedation/Analgesia, iStat and glucometer certifications
• Social Security number and date of birth required for consideration
• Copies of required certifications required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Critical Care Services unit (2nd Floor) at a Level 3 Trauma facility
• Home unit is CCU with float priority to CVICU overflow, then Critical Care Step-Down, then Med-Surg when critical care areas are fully staffed
• Adult and geriatric patient population
• Patient ratios: CCU 1:2-1:3, CVICU 1:2-1:3, CCSD 1:4-1:5, Med-Surg 1:6
• Night shift schedule, 7P-7A, 36 hours per week>>>
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirements
• Uses SpaceLabs bedside monitoring, Baxter/Spectrum IV pumps, Kangaroo feeding pumps, Hill-Rom critical care beds, ventilators, Prismaflex CRRT machines, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, Blanketrols, Arctic Sun, Rapid-Transfusion, fluid warming, and Zoll monitoring
• Meditech EHR used for ICU patient documentation
• Care for patients with respiratory failure, ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, septic shock, GI bleeds, post-operative GI disorders, CABGs, and vascular procedures
• Preferred experience includes teaching hospital settings with resident physicians and high-acuity ICU skills such as CRRT, IABP, and arterial sheath pulls
• Preferred background in SICU, MICU, CVICU, Neuro ICU, or PCU/Med-Surg
• Strong time management and ability to work in a fast-paced environment required
• Effective communication skills with patients, families, and care team members needed
• Scrub color is royal blue; neutral solid-colored or NAMC-logo tops permitted over royal blue scrub pants
• Candidates cannot reside within 60 miles of the facility
• Candidates who worked as permanent staff at any LifePoint facility within the last 12 months are not eligible
• Candidates cannot be employed elsewhere full time
