Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is hiring an ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment in California. Requires 2–3 years ICU experience and ACLS, BLS, NIHSS; CCRN preferred. Travel experience and critical care drips familiarity are a plus. 12-hour night shifts with weekend requirements and float obligations.

NICU orientation starts in December; travel and licensure reimbursements included; navy scrubs required. Pass/Fail competency exams apply prior to offer.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license is mandatory.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
• Minimum ICU experience: 3 years, or 2+ years from a large institution.
• Prior travel nursing experience preferred.
• Experience with vasopressors, heparin, nitro, and other critical drugs.
• Ventilator management experience required.
• Driver's license copy is required for consideration.
• Two professional references: supervisor within 12 months and peer within 3 years.

Responsibilities

• Care for ICU patients in a 36/44 licensed bed unit.
• Maintain patient ratios 1:2 or 1:1.
• Float to Telemetry and ER as needed.
• Charge nurse does not take a patient assignment.
• Unit tech supports secretarial and equipment tasks.
• Use Cerner PowerChart EMR and GE monitors.
• 12-hour night shifts: 0645-1915/1845-0715.
• Holiday coverage required; Navy blue scrubs.
• Orientation starts December; Relias dysrhythmia exam.
• Pass sterile technique tests on first day of orientation.
• Travelers not assigned fresh open heart or craniotomy patients.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring at least 2-3 years of ICU experience and ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; CCRN preferred
• Minimum 3 years of ICU experience required, or 2+ years if from a large institution
• Prior travel experience preferred
• Experience with vasopressors, Nitro, Heparin, and other critical care drips
• Ventilator management experience required
• Driver's license copy required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Responsibilities

• Acute care ICU setting with 36 of 44 licensed beds currently in use
• Patient ratios of 1:2 or 1:1
• Common diagnoses include cardiac, PCI, open heart, sepsis, ETOH, stroke, CABG, stents, balloon pumps, and craniotomies
• Travelers are not assigned fresh open heart or craniotomy patients
• Charge nurse does not take a patient assignment
• Unit tech available for secretarial and equipment duties, no nurse aides
• Uses Cerner PowerChart EMR
• Hardwired GE monitors with a monitor tech, no centralized monitoring
• 24/7 in-house hospitalist/intensivist coverage, RT, and pharmacy
• No dedicated IV team
• 12-hour night shifts, 0645-1915/1845-0715, no self-scheduling
• Every other weekend requirement (Fri, Sat, Sun)
• Floating required to Tele and ER for ICU holds, with travelers expected to float first
• One day of ICU-specific orientation plus one shift on the Tele/stepdown unit
• Deliver high-acuity ICU nursing care with a strong emphasis on patient satisfaction, clinical competence, and compassionate bedside manner
• Work alongside a charge nurse who does not carry a patient assignment
• Holiday coverage required as part of the staff rotation
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Orientation is limited to December start dates only
• Required to pass a Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation
• Pass/fail sterile technique testing for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on first day of orientation
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within the past year
