American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN - ICU for a critical care float position requiring 3 years of experience and float availability across ICU, PCU, MS, and ED.
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license required in hand prior to start
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required (AHA or RQI accepted)
- Minimum 3 years of ICU experience required, with strong PCU experience also considered
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Cerner charting experience preferred
- Skills required include IV therapy, central line care, arterial line management, ventilator management, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Experience with CVA/acute stroke management, hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun, and interpretation of dysrhythmias required
- Experience with Impella and IABP preferred
- Nursing degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation required
- 2 supervisor references required
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
Responsibilities
- Critical Care Float position in a short-term acute care hospital
- ICU unit with required floating to PCU, MS, and ED based on departmental needs
- Patient population includes ARDS, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, DKA, AKI, UTI, and acute shock cases
- Patient ratios of 1:2-4
- Performs Cath Lab procedures, TR bands, sheath pulls, EEGs, cardioversion, and stress tests
- Uses ventilators, Arctic Sun, and balloon pumps (rare use, less than 3 in the past year)
- Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 19:00-7:30
- Cerner charting system used
- Required to float within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital
- Serves as a resource traveler floating between ICU, PCU, MS, and ED based on hospital needs
- Scrub requirement: red top with black bottoms
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates (IN residents) are not accepted for this position
- Any current or former IU Health perm/PRN employee must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
- Travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within IU Health must take a break to reset eligibility: 90 days for out-of-state residents and 180 days for in-state residents
