Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a float pool position at a teaching hospital in California. CA RN license and BSN are required, with AHA BLS/ACLS certifications and travel experience preferred.

The role involves floating to TCUs, ICUs, ED, and PACU with 12-hour shifts on a 4-week cycle, supporting complex critical care cases in a teaching hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license required at time of submission.
• BSN required.
• AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• NIHSS certification preferred.
• Minimum 4 years of recent ICU experience within the last 6 months to 1 year.
• Teaching hospital experience required and must be noted in employment history.
• Trauma Level II experience required.
• Completed travel assignment within the past 12 months required.
• Experience with IV therapy, port access/management, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, PICC line management, and TPN/Lipids required.
• Care of ventilated patients, high flow nasal cannula management, interpretation of ABGs, and suctioning (ETT, NT) skills required.
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and ability to obtain 12 lead EKG/ECG required.
• Experience with continuous IV paralytics/neuromuscular blockade, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips required.
• CVA/acute stroke management and EVD experience required.
• 2 professional references from most recent employer required.

Responsibilities

• Float pool position with ICU RNs floating to all TCUs, ICUs, ED, and PACU.
• 12-hour Day (7:00-19:30) and Night (19:00-7:30) rotating shifts on 4-week schedule cycles.
• May switch between day and night shifts depending on schedule cycle needs.
• Patient ratio of 1:2.
• Epic charting system preferred.
• Must be able to float to other facilities and departments within a 75+ mile radius.
• Provide direct patient care across multiple ICU and critical care settings including CVICU, MICU, SICU, and Neuro ICU.
• Work within a teaching hospital environment supporting complex critical care cases.
• All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted and approved by the manager at time of offer, with no additional requests accepted mid-contract.
• RTO cannot fall within the first two weeks of the assignment start date.
• Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate as travel candidates.
• Any prior employment with University of California medical facilities or their acquired facilities must be disclosed, including dates, units, and manager names for rehire eligibility review.
• Travel pairs are allowed but generally will not be placed on the same unit, and married couples may not work on the same unit.
