Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an Emergency Department RN for a Level 2 Trauma Center in Wisconsin. Requires 2+ years ER experience and WI or compact RN licensure; ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, and TNCC are required, ENPC encouraged. Cerner EMR experience preferred.

12-hour shifts with evening/night rotations, every other weekend/holiday. On-site department with 38 beds, diverse cases, and strong team support. BSN not required; 2 professional references required (1 supervisor, 1 peer).

Qualifications

• Active WI or compact RN license
• Minimum 2 years of ER experience
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, TNCC
• ENPC certification encouraged but not required
• Level 1 or 2 trauma center experience preferred
• Pediatric ER experience preferred
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• BSN not required
• 2 professional references required (1 from supervisor, 1 from peer)

Responsibilities

• 38-bed combined Emergency and Urgent Care unit within an acute care Level 2 Trauma Center
• Adult and Pediatric trauma designation with STEMI receiving and Stroke Center status
• 5 trauma bays and 2 triage bays behind registration
• Treats approximately 140–180 patients per 24-hour period
• Nurse to patient ratios of 1:3 in ER and 1:6 in Urgent Care
• RNs triage patients from walk-ins and ambulance arrivals

Responsibilities

• 38-bed combined Emergency and Urgent Care unit within an acute care Level 2 Trauma Center
• Adult and Pediatric trauma designation with STEMI receiving and Stroke Center status
• 5 trauma bays/resuscitation rooms and 2 triage bays behind registration
• Treats approximately 140-180 patients per 24-hour period
• Nurse to patient ratios of 1:3 in the ER and 1:6 in Urgent Care
• Common diagnoses include chest pain, abdominal pain, sepsis, syncope, elevated heart rate, headache, and suicidal ideation
• Common drips include Heparin, nitroglycerin, diltiazem, amiodarone, nicardipine, and norepinephrine
• Uses Cerner EMR, currently transitioning to Epic
• 12-hour evening and night shifts with possibility of day shifts as needed
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• No on-call requirement, though occasional standby may occur if low census
• Floating limited to patient sitter or helping hands role in other units, infrequent occurrence
• No fast track area, but a separate Urgent Care is available
• No separate ER holding area; holds are intermixed within the department
• 4 dedicated psych rooms within the department
• 24/7 in-house security, though not stationed directly in the ER
• On-site X-ray and CT within the department
• RNs draw labs; phlebotomy handles blood cultures unless unavailable within 20 minutes
• RT available 24/7 in-house though not stationed directly in the ER
• Responsible for triaging patients from both walk-ins and ambulance arrivals
• Team includes ED physicians, mid-levels (PAs, NPs), Urgent Care physicians, charge nurses, and a 24/7 house supervisor
• Support staff includes a dedicated HUC 24/7, techs (0700-0300) who assist with IVs, labs, blood cultures, EKGs, and ADLs, and paramedics who assist with medications and procedural tasks
• RT available 24/7 in-house for ABGs, breathing treatments, and assistance with intubations or respiratory concerns
• GE cardiac monitors used throughout the department; no dedicated monitor techs, RNs responsible for monitoring rhythms
• Transport team available for X-ray and CT from 0600-2100
• Unit orientation spans 3 days, including computer-based training and 2 days with an RN preceptor
• Scrubs must be a solid color, clean, and professional in appearance
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Local candidates within 80 miles of the facility are considered, at a reduced rate
• Former Marshfield employees must have an end date at least 6 months prior to submission
