Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ER RN for a Level II Trauma Center in Illinois. The role requires active IL licensure and at least 2 years of ED trauma experience.

Responsibilities include providing care to adult and pediatric patients in a 32-bed ED with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio, night shifts, and potential floating within the hospital or to affiliates. Cerner EMR experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Active IL RN license or ETA required at time of application.
  • Minimum 2 years of ED experience.
  • Level I or II Trauma experience required.
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, TNCC (ENPC and NRP preferred).
  • AHA and Red Cross certifications accepted; RQI cards not accepted.

  • Serve general Emergency Department patients in a Level II Trauma Center.
  • Work in a 32-bed ED with 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio.
  • Night shift schedule: 4x12 or 3x12 hours (1900-0730).
  • Weekend shifts required as needed; no on-call requirements.
  • Floating within hospital or to nearby affiliates as needed.
  • Operate Cerner EMR; knowledge preferred.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ER RN for a Level II Trauma Center emergency department requiring active IL licensure and at least 2 years of ED trauma experience.


Requirements
  • Active IL RN license or ETA required at time of application
  • Minimum 2 years of ED experience required
  • Level I or Level II Trauma experience required
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, and TNCC (ENPC and NRP preferred)
  • AHA and Red Cross certifications accepted; RQI cards not accepted
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and 12-lead EKG required
  • Experience with IV therapy and phlebotomy including central line care, blood product administration, and starting IVs required
  • Experience with emergency medications including IV vasopressors, continuous IV sedation/paralytics, and procedural sedation required
  • Experience managing neurological emergencies including CVA, ICP monitoring, and traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries required
  • Ortho-trauma case experience required
  • Pediatric case experience required, including asthma, burns, seizures, abuse identification, and respiratory infections
  • Psychiatric case experience required, including acute psychosis, overdose, and management of violent or suicidal patients
  • Respiratory case experience required, including intubation, ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and chest tube management
  • Shock/trauma case experience required, including gunshot wounds and traumatic amputations
  • Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and triage required
  • Cerner charting experience preferred
  • Previous charge experience preferred

Responsibilities
  • General Emergency Department serving combined adult and pediatric patients in a Level II Trauma Center
  • 32-bed ED with an average daily census of 120 patients
  • 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio for all shifts
  • Night shift schedule (4x12 or 3x12 hours, 1900-0730)
  • Weekend shifts required as needed
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities as needed
  • Cerner EMR used, experience preferred
  • Work within a Level II Trauma Center, 280-bed acute care hospital
  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Previous permanent or PRN employees must be separated from the facility for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • Requested time off should ideally not exceed 5 days
  • Candidates must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Parking permit required at no cost, arranged during orientation
