Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ED RN traveler for a Level 1 Trauma Center on the night shift. Requires at least 2 years of ED experience and TNCC certification. RN license held in NC or Compact state is required, with BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications.

The role features 12-hour night shifts (1900-0700), 36 hours per week, and an EOW rotation. Benefits include housing and licensure/licensing reimbursements, with travel and credentialing support provided.

Qualifications

  • First-time travelers only with 3+ years of Level 1 trauma center experience.
  • Minimum 12 months of core ED experience within the last year required.
  • At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor/Manager/Director/Charge RN dated within the past year.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive ED nursing care in a Level 1 Trauma Center ED.
  • Care for patients across a wide acuity spectrum in a fast-paced trauma setting.
  • Collaborate with ED team including ED Techs, nurses, pharmacists, and physicians.
  • Utilize Epic EMR, Alaris pumps, Omnicell, GE monitors and imaging equipment.
  • Maintain RN patient ratios based on acuity (3:1 to 6:1).
  • Support 12-hour night shifts from 1900–0700, 36 hours per week.
  • Travelers may rotate to the ED Transition Care Unit as needed.
  • Comply with documentation and safety standards, including NEO orientation.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ED RN for a Level 1 Trauma Center on the night shift, requiring at least 2 years of ED experience and TNCC certification.


Requirements
  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC
  • Minimum 2 years of ED experience required
  • First-time travelers considered only with 3+ years of Level 1 trauma center experience
  • Minimum 12 months of core ED experience within the last year required
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Responsibilities
  • Level 1 Trauma Center ED at an 885-bed academic medical center
  • Unit includes 55 horizontal beds, 6 vertical beds, 15 observation beds, and 5 BH holding beds, averaging 200-220 patients per day
  • Currently in the 2nd of 3 renovation phases, with plans for 2 fixed-wing helicopter pads
  • Regional Trauma Center receiving all ED patients including trauma, stroke, and STEMI cases
  • Treats a wide range of conditions including GSWs, MVCs, MI, CVA, overdoses, cardiac/respiratory arrest, and psychiatric emergencies
  • RN patient ratios vary by acuity: 3:1, 4:1, 5:1, or 6:1
  • LPN ratios also vary by acuity: 4:1, 5:1, or 6:1
  • 12-hour night shifts from 1900-0700, scheduled for 36 hours per week
  • EOW (every other weekend) rotation required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • May float to the ED Transition Care Unit
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell med dispensing, Phillips monitors, GE ultrasounds, and GE EKG machines
  • Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care using evidence-based practice and clinical decision-making
  • Support ED patients across a wide acuity spectrum in a fast-paced trauma environment
  • Travelers will not likely be utilized in Trauma bays during initial contracts
  • Team support includes ED Techs, Unit Secretary, Charge Nurse, 24/7 Critical Care Pharmacists, Paramedic Staff, Resource/Pod Leader Nurses, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalists, and Intensivists
  • SANE Quality Coordinator available for specialized cases
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Scrub color required: Royal Blue
  • Free parking provided
  • Travelers required to work 75% of holidays
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
  • Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
