Job summary

American Traveler Staffing Professionals is seeking an experienced Travel RN for an Emergency Department assignment at a Magnet-designated Level I Trauma Center in Illinois. The role requires 2 years of ED experience and a background in trauma and stroke care.

Shifts are 12 hours evenings (3pm-3am), 36 hours per week, 8-week length, with travel pay and stipends. EPIC EMR is used; the employer offers comprehensive benefits and 24/7 recruiter support.

Qualifications

  • Active IL RN license required.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required.
  • CPI/MOAB, TCRN, TNS, and ENPC certifications preferred.

  • Trauma and stroke (TPA administration) experience required.
  • IV starts, assisting with chest tube insertion, and medication titration (pressors, insulin, sedation) required.
  • Ultrasound-guided IV experience preferred.

Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring 2 years of recent ED experience and a Level 1 Trauma Center background.

Details
  • Level 1 Trauma Center Emergency Department with 44 individual rooms, 10 hallway beds, and approximately 5 cardiac chairs
  • Level II NICU, Primary Stroke Center, and Magnet-designated facility
  • Average patient load of 150 patients per 24 hours, spanning neonates to geriatrics
  • No inpatient pediatric units; pediatric patients transferred to affiliated facilities
  • Patient population includes stroke (TPA administration), DKA, trauma (GSW, MVC, elderly falls), geriatric psych, abdominal pain, COVID, and STEMI cases
  • ICU holds managed with EICU RN support
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6, typically 1:4-5 during days and flexing to 1:6 at night (1:3 when fully staffed)
  • 12-hour evening shifts from 3pm-3am, 40 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation every other weekend
  • No on-call requirements
  • No floating required
  • EPIC EMR required
  • Centralized tele monitoring throughout the unit with ED Techs trained to add/remove tele
  • Uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Ranger for massive transfusions
Requirements
  • Active IL RN license required
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required
  • CPI/MOAB, TCRN, TNS, and ENPC certifications preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department experience required
  • Trauma and stroke (TPA administration) experience required
  • Skills required include IV starts, assisting with chest tube insertion, and medication titration (pressors, insulin, sedation)
  • Ultrasound-guided IV experience preferred
  • Must be able to draw a blood culture without a break in technique leading to a contaminated specimen
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Candidate's middle name or initial needed for consideration
  • Candidate DOB and last 4 of SSN needed for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
  • Support staff includes 5-7 ED Techs during the day and 3 overnight, Charge Nurse, Task RN for break relief and trauma assistance, Alert RN for critical patients, and Electronic ICU RN for ICU holds as needed
  • RT, ED physicians, mid-level providers, and hospitalists available 24/7
  • Phlebotomy available for subsequent lab draws and always responds for traumas
  • Orientation includes Day 1 meeting with educator, badge issuance, and hospital tour, followed by Day 2-3 preceptor orientation on 12-hour shifts
  • Schedule created in 6-week cycles with self-scheduling
  • Time off approval goes through the manager
  • Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
