Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for night shifts in Maryland. Requires 2+ years of ED experience and an active RN license (MD or Compact). BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI certifications are required.

Responsibilities include working in a high-volume ED, floating within ER and hold/Obs units, with shifts 1900-0730 and weekend requirements. Travelers welcome; local candidates within 50 miles typically not considered.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Work in high-volume, fast-paced ED with 66 beds

• Average daily census ~200 patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio 1:4 to 1:5; hold/Obs 1:5 to 1:6
• Provide emergency care for wide range of diagnoses
• Administer meds, manage IV sedation, assist with intubation and ventilator care
• Follow isolation precautions and PPE protocols; triage patients
• Holiday coverage and travel assignment for distant candidates
• First-time travelers with strong ED experience considered

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a night shift position requiring 2 years of ED experience and an active RN license (MD or Compact)

Requirements

• Active RN license (Maryland or Compact) required
• BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI certifications required (AHA certifications only for BLS/ACLS/PALS)
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience required
• Community hospital experience required
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Experience with pediatric emergency cases, IV therapy, respiratory care, and cardiac monitoring
• Skilled in managing dysrhythmias, multisystem organ dysfunction, and psychiatric emergencies
• Experience obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG and applying splints

Responsibilities

• High volume, fast-paced, non-trauma Emergency Department with 66 beds
• Serves a 10-bed ED hold/Observation unit staffed by the ER team
• Average daily census of approximately 200 patients
• Patient population spans all ages from neonates to geriatrics
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, up to 1:5 with lower acuity
• Hold/Obs unit ratio of 1:5, up to 1:6 with lower acuity
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 1900-0730
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required within the ER specialty, including the hold/Obs unit
• No pre-scheduled on-call shifts required
• Provide emergency care across a wide range of diagnoses including abdominal pain, asthma, respiratory infections, poisoning, and trauma-related conditions
• Administer emergency medications, manage IV sedation, and assist with intubation and ventilator care as needed
• Apply isolation precautions and PPE protocols and perform patient triage
• Required to float within specialty scope, including coverage of the ED hold/Observation unit
• Holiday coverage required as scheduled
• First-time travelers with strong ED experience will be considered
• Candidates residing more than 50 miles from the facility are required to take the travel assignment; local candidates under 50 miles are not accepted unless otherwise specified
• Former staff must be separated from the health system for at least 12 months before returning as a travaler
• Returning travelers must have at least a 6-month break from the facility before reassignment
• Maximum RTO request of 7 days, with additional scheduling rules for requests longer than 4 consecutive days
