Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Cardiovascular ICU RN for a Level 1 trauma hospital in Texas. You will support 18 beds with 1:2 nurse-patient ratios, handle high-acuity cardiovascular cases, and use EPIC EMR for charting.

12-hour day shifts with every weekend on rotation, plus holiday coverage and unit-specific orientation provided. Required are TX or compact RN licensure, BLS/ACLS/NIHSS, and 2+ years in a busy ICU; 3+ travel experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Active TX or compact RN license required.
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience; 3+ years and travel experience preferred.
  • Experience in high-acuity, high-volume hospital settings preferred.
  • Ventilators, pressors, and hemodynamic monitoring experience required.
  • Experience with sheaths, IABP, Impella, CRRT preferred.
  • Ability to manage paralyzed/sedated patients using BIS and TOF monitoring.
  • Able to titrate drips including epinephrine, norepinephrine, vasopressin, dobutamine, milrinone, amiodarone, cardene.
  • Copy of driver's license required; two professional references with dates and eligibility.
  • EPIC EMR proficiency

Responsibilities

  • Provide critical care nursing in a CCU of a Level 1 trauma hospital.
  • Work on an 18-bed unit with 1:2 (occasionally 1:1) nurse-to-patient ratios.
  • Care for heart failure, STEMI, PE, arrhythmias, and MICU overflow patients.
  • Utilize EPIC EMR for charting and documentation.
  • 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend; travelers fill shifts as needed.
  • Float to similar units as needed; no call or standby requirements.
  • RT 24/7 in ICU for ventilator support; troubleshoot vents and respond to emergencies.
  • Interpret telemetry strips with HF monitors; unit charge nurse present per shift.
  • Minimal CNA support; ~1 aide for 18 beds.
  • Two 12-hour orientation shifts; holiday coverage required.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with ventilators, pressors, and hemodynamic monitoring (PAC, CVP, arterial lines)
  • Experience with sheaths, IABP, Impella, and CRRT preferred
  • Ability to manage paralyzed and sedated patients using BIS and TOF monitoring
  • Competent in titrating drips such as epinephrine, norepinephrine, vasopressin, dobutamine, milrinone, amiodarone, and cardene
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

  • Utilizes EPIC EMR for charting
  • 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend required
  • No self-scheduling; travelers fill open shifts based on unit needs
  • First to float to similar units required
  • No call or standby requirements
  • RT available in the ICU 24/7 for ventilator support, though RNs must troubleshoot vents and respond to emergencies like self-extubation
  • RNs interpret their own telemetry strips using HP monitors
  • Charge nurse present each shift, though not always free from patient assignment
  • Minimal patient care assistant support, roughly one aide for all 18 beds
  • Provide critical care nursing to complex cardiovascular and overflow ICU patients
  • Two 12-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
  • Holiday coverage typically required, including days before and after the holiday
  • Dress code includes teal scrub tops and bottoms with solid or coordinating non-terrycloth jackets
  • Daily and monthly parking options available on or off campus, with associated fees
  • First-time travelers may be considered if experience requirements are met
