Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic ICU travel nurse for a Level I trauma center in Connecticut. The role features a 1:2 patient ratio and 4x12 night shifts (19:00–07:00). First-time travelers are accepted with relevant ICU experience.

Vaccine requirements include flu and COVID boosters, with exemptions only for medical or religious reasons. Applicants must reside >75 miles away and be willing to float within scope.

Qualifications

• Active CT or compact RN license required (pending license accepted).
• Minimum 3 years of Cardiothoracic ICU experience.
• Previous charge nurse experience required.
• Proficiency with Swan-Ganz monitoring.
• Epic charting experience required.
• Level I Trauma Center experience preferred.
• Ventilator management, arterial line care, central line care, and cardiac drug titration.
• Experience with post cardiac surgery care, CABG, TAVR, and valve procedures.
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias and 12-lead ECG.

Responsibilities

• Cardiothoracic ICU unit within a Level I Trauma Center, short-term acute care hospital.
• Maintain an average patient ratio of 1:2 for day and night shifts.
• Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours (19:00-07:00).
• Every other weekend required; not an on-call position.
• Float to other HVC ICUs within scope; use Epic charting system.
• Provide high-acuity nursing care in a demanding cardiac ICU setting.
• First-time travelers accepted with Cardiothoracic ICU and/or critical care experience.
• Travelers may participate in disaster or emergency response activities as needed.
• RTO requests >7 days require additional approval.
• Former permanent staff must be separated >2 years to return as traveler.
• Local candidates not accepted; must reside >75 miles from hospital.
• Flu vaccine required with no declinations; COVID vaccine and booster required unless exempt.

• Proficiency with Swan-Ganz (pulmonary artery line) monitoring required
• Epic charting experience required
• Level I Trauma Center experience preferred
• Skilled in ventilator management, arterial line management, central line care, and cardiac drip titration
• Experience with post cardiac surgery care, CABG, TAVR, and valve repair/replacement patients
• Experience interpreting and managing dysrhythmias and 12-lead EKG/ECG

• Former permanent staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 2 years to return as a traveler
• Local candidates not accepted; must reside more than 75 miles from the hospital
• Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted
• COVID vaccine and booster required except for religious or medical exemption
