Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced CVICU RN for a night-shift travel assignment in Maryland. The role requires 2+ years in CVICU and at least one prior travel assignment, with certification in BLS/ACLS and an active RN license.

You will care for postoperative cardiac patients, manage dysrhythmias, and monitor ventilated patients, using Cerner/Med Connect and Pyxis for charting and meds.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (MD or compact) required.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• Minimum 2 years CVICU experience.
• Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment.
• Experience with dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
• Experience with post cardiac surgery patients (not OR).
• Comfort caring for POD 1 fresh heart patients.
• Experience with chest tube management and ventilated patients.
• Proficient with pacer support and transvenous pacer management.
• IV insulin protocol experience; lumbar drain preferred.
• Two supervisory references, including one from most recent assignment.

Responsibilities

• Provide critical care in CVICU with 1–8 patients daily across 8 beds.
• Night shift schedule: 3x12 hours, 19:00–07:00.
• Maintain 1:2 patient ratio and 4 on-call shifts every 6 weeks.
• Work every third weekend and float to similar/acuity-lower units.
• Chart with Cerner/Med Connect and med administration via Pyxis.
• Follow SBAR and shift note protocols for handoffs.
• Deliver CCU nursing care to cardiovascular surgery patients.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU night shift position requiring 2 years of CVICU experience and at least one completed travel assignment.

Requirements

• Active RN license (MD state license or compact license) required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU experience required
• Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment
• Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Experience with post cardiac surgery patients (not directly from the OR)
• Comfortable admitting and caring for POD 1 fresh heart patients
• Experience assisting with chest tube insertion/removal
• Experience caring for ventilated patients
• Proficient with pacer, temporary pacer, and transvenous pacer management
• Experience with IV insulin protocols
• Lumbar drain experience preferred
• Two supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment
• Must support at least 2 years of experience within the previous 3 years

Responsibilities

• Work in the Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) with an average daily census of 1-8 patients across 8 staffed beds
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours), 19:00-7:00
• 1:2 patient ratio
• On-call requirement of 4 call shifts within a 6-week schedule
• Required to work every third weekend
• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
• Uses Cerner/Med Connect for charting and Pyxis for medication administration
• Follows SBAR and shift note communication protocols
• Provide critical care nursing to cardiovascular surgery and cardiac patients requiring advanced monitoring and intervention
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Flu vaccination required for all employees
• Candidates must reside within 60 miles for local rate consideration; local candidates are accepted at a reduced rate
• Driver's license must be provided at time of consideration and must match candidate's address for local status determination
• Previous MedStar employees must have been separated for at least one year before returning as a traveler
• No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment, with a maximum of 7 days RTO per 13-week contract
• Candidates must pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with at least 80% overall and 100% on lethal rhythms
