Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with critical care experience for a high-volume, Level I Trauma Center emergency department position.

The role requires NBRC RRT credential, VA licensure, BLS/ACLS, and experience with advanced ventilator management and ABG interpretation. Day shifts, 3x12s, travel-friendly and includes housing allowances and travel reimbursements.

Qualifications

• RRT credential through NBRC required (CRT not accepted).
• BLS and ACLS required, PALS preferred.
• Licensed respiratory therapist in Virginia or eligibility.

Responsibilities

• ER Level I trauma center care for adolescents to geriatrics.
• Operate intensive ventilatory support devices and monitors.
• Manage airway, suctioning, and extubation as needed.
• Document in EPIC; ensure adherence to protocols.
• 3x12 hour day shifts, 7a–7p; every other weekend; one holiday per 13 weeks.
• Floating within skill set and support travel assignments.

Job description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with critical care experience for a high-volume, Level I Trauma Center emergency department position.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• RRT credential through the NBRC required (CRT not accepted)
• BLS and ACLS required, PALS preferred
• Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by the VA State Board of Medicine required (license required if applicable)
• Critical care experience required to work in a high-volume ER, Level I Trauma Center
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
• Proficient in aerosol and medication delivery systems including MDI, Medihaler, mask, and trach setups
• Skilled in administering Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, Pulmicort, Mucomyst, racemic epinephrine, inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, bicarbonate, and lidocaine
• Competent in ABG interpretation and ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, flow-by, and troubleshooting high-pressure alarms
• Skilled in airway management including extubation, oral/nasal airway placement, suctioning, sputum collection, and tracheostomy care
• Proficient in oxygen therapy and nebulizer setups including handheld, T-piece, trach collar, and ultrasonic

Responsibilities

• Level I Trauma Center ER setting serving adolescents, adults, and geriatrics including neurotrauma, cardiovascular, and medical/surgical ICU patients
• Patient ratio of 1:25
• Uses Servo I, Servo U, V-60 BiPAP, Optiflow heated high flow, iNO with iNOvent, and LTV1200 equipment
• EPIC charting experience required
• Day shift, 3x12 hours, 7a-7p, every other weekend
• Floating required within skillset
• One holiday required per 13-week contract
• Robust Assess and Treat protocol in place with ventilator management and liberation policy
• Facility is a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
• Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
• First-time travelers will be considered, with 1 year of travel experience preferred
• Local candidates within 100 miles of the facility are not accepted
• Previous employees must be separated for at least one year before returning as a traveler
• Facility does not allow travelers to return after working 365 days on assignment, regardless of separation period
