Job summary

The NYS Office of General Services seeks a Field Construction Inspector to supervise and inspect building projects of moderate size, coordinating contractors and trades to meet drawings, specifications, schedules and standards on site.

You will review shop drawings and submittals, monitor progress, resolve field conditions, participate in project meetings, and assist with closeout, warranty work, and final inspections, ensuring contract compliance throughout the lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and inspect building construction projects of moderate size and complexity.
• Coordinate the work of contractors and multiple trades to ensure compliance with contract drawings, specifications, schedules, standards, and construction procedures.
• Perform field inspections and investigations; review workmanship, materials, installations, and schedule testing for compliance with contract requirements.
• Monitor contractor progress and schedules, identify potential delays, and coordinate with contractors and scheduling staff regarding corrective actions or recovery schedules when necessary.
• Review shop drawings, product data, samples, submittals, FRIs, Information Bulletins, and other construction documentation for completeness and contract compliance.
• Investigate field conditions, construction conflicts, and design issues and coordinate with supervisory and design staff to develop appropriate resolutions.
• Prepare, review, and recommend contract changes, field/change orders, time extensions, and other contract-related documentation.
• Conduct and participate in project meetings; maintain required project records, reports, correspondence, inspection documentation, and construction files.
• Review contractors’ applications for payment and verify quantities and work completed prior to recommending payment.
• Assist with substantial completion, final inspections, project turnover, closeout documentation, and warranty-related activities.
• Provide direction and oversight to assigned inspection staff and/or consultants and review their work and reports.
• Assist higher-level staff with the administration and oversight of larger or more complex projects.
