Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a Pediatric Stepdown RN with trach and ventilator management experience for a 13-week rotating shift assignment requiring 2 years of pediatric acute or rehab experience.

Responsibilities include caring for pediatric and adolescent patients with complex neurologic, respiratory, and post-surgical needs, with a 1:4 ratio, 7:00-19:30 / 19:00-07:30 shifts and required weekend/holiday coverage. Travelers float within scope; first-time travelers welcome.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (Maryland or Compact) required.
• 2 years of pediatric rehab or pediatric acute care experience with required skills (non-negotiable).
• Tracheostomy and ventilator management experience required.
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care.
• Experience with pediatric feedings (bottle, breast, gavage) and NG tube insertion/management.
• Experience with oral/nasal suctioning and oxygen delivery systems.
• Wound assessment/care experience preferred.
• Teaching hospital experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Pediatric Stepdown unit combining rehab and acute care, not a PCU.
• Patient population includes pediatric and adolescent patients with TBI, spinal cord injury, GSW, MVA, burns, feeding disorders, failure to thrive, spina bifida, and CP.
• Post-ortho surgical patients requiring extensive ST/PT/OT care.
• Patient ratio of 1:4.
• 3x12 rotating day/night shifts (07:00-19:30 / 19:00-07:30).
• Every other weekend required.
• Holiday coverage required as scheduled.
• Floating required within specialty and other departments, including occasional float to another campus through 10/8/26.
• No on-call requirements.
• Meditech charting system experience preferred.
• Provide stepdown-level nursing care to pediatric and adolescent patients with complex neurologic, respiratory, and post-surgical needs.
