Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an LPN for a Surgical Stepdown unit, requiring 1+ year of stepdown experience in an acute care hospital and BLS/IV certification.
- Work on a 29-bed Surgical Stepdown unit
- Care for post-op patients including high acuity surgeries, lower acuity surgical patients requiring cardiac drips or BiPAP, trauma, and high acuity medical cases
- Patient ratio of 1:5/6
- Uses Epic EMR
- Every other weekend required
- May float as needed to similar or lower acuity units
- No call requirements
- Current LPN license required if applicable, meeting Missouri licensure eligibility or current Missouri license
- BLS certification from AHA required
- IV certification required
- Minimum 1 year of stepdown experience in an acute care hospital required
- Proof of flu vaccination or Mercy-approved exemption required November 1-April 1; declinations not accepted
- Must be able to stand and walk most of the shift, with frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
- Must be able to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs, pinch up to 15 lbs, and kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally
- High risk exposure to blood and body fluids
- Provide direct patient care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation across all age groups
- Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments to optimize comfort and outcomes
- Maintain professional accountability and evaluate effectiveness of care provided by other direct caregivers
- Maintain patient rights and confidentiality of information
- Function within scope of nursing practice per Missouri Nurse Practice Act and facility standards
- Positive attitude, problem-solving skills, and team-oriented personality preferred
- Black scrubs required; attire must meet facility dress code standards
- RTO of 5 days or less allowed, must be made up during the assignment
- Only 1 holiday RTO request permitted per assignment
- Local candidates accepted within 50 miles, though bill rate will be reduced
- Facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and Level 1 STEMI Center
