Job summary

Mortenson Construction is seeking a Lean Technician I or II to join our Solar Team and help implement Mortenson's kaizen-based continuous improvement approach to enhance safety, streamline processes, and improve project outcomes. This role requires 100% travel to various project sites with relocation as needed.

Responsibilities include partnering with project leadership, planning kaizen events, conducting workshops, and promoting lean tools such as GEMBA walks and DMS.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Construction experience preferred.
• Experience applying lean methods (kaizen events).
• Basic understanding of continuous improvement principles.
• Reliability and follow-through are essential.
• Ability to influence through relationships.
• Proactive self-starter with growth mindset.
• Curiosity and optimism in diverse teams.
• Effective communication across levels.
• Willingness to work full-time on site in remote locations.

Responsibilities

• Partner with project leadership to support continuous improvement onsite.
• Coordinate with project team to plan and execute kaizen events.
• Participate in kaizen workshops with project teams.
• Promote lean tools (GEMBA walks, Daily Management System, idea capture).
• Reinforce continuous improvement post-kaizen events.
• Assist forepersons in observing work and addressing abnormalities.
• Encourage crews to brainstorm and implement improvements.
• Assist in applying 5S practices across teams.
• Support daily planning and learning approaches.
