Job summary

Mortenson Construction is seeking a Lean Engineer I to support project teams using kaizen-based continuous improvement, 5S and Flow Construction to enhance safety and streamline processes. You will partner with leadership and craft workforce to drive lean adoption and measurable outcomes.

The role involves coordinating improvement events, facilitating teams, and promoting continuous improvement across diverse projects. Mobility, strong communication and a collaborative mindset are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Engineering or other science or mathematical related degree by summer 2027
• Internship experience in construction or manufacturing
• Willing to be mobile / relocate frequently, for project assignments, based on needs of the business
• Possess a current driver's license and have access to reliable transportation

Responsibilities

• Partner closely with project leadership and craft workforce to establish trust and gain buy-in for lean approaches
• Provide regular feedback to project leadership and the group lean leader on lean applications and outcomes
• Support continuous improvement efforts onsite
• Coordinate with the project team to plan and execute improvement events
• Assist and facilitate portions of improvement events with support from group and company experts
• Support forepersons on observing work and addressing abnormalities
• Collaborate with forepersons to encourage crews to brainstorm and implement improvements
