Job summary

The Village for Families & Children in Hartford, CT is seeking a Shift Supervisor to coordinate shift operations and staff coverage in a 24-bed residential program for youth. The role focuses on safety, crisis response, and therapeutic support.

You will ensure admissions, schedule adherence, and staff coaching, while promoting a calm, trauma-informed environment. Starting hourly rate is $24.00 with differential pay for evening and overnight hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; higher education preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Experience in human services or working with children with special needs preferred.
• Knowledge of child development and trauma impact.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong cultural competence with diverse populations.
• Ability to stay calm, manage stress, and respond safely in crisis.
• Physically able to supervise children and perform holds if necessary.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate shift operations with staffing, coverage, assignments, and equipment.
• Monitor admissions, discharges, transportation, school transitions, and events.
• Provide coaching, mentoring, training, and support to staff.
• Respond to crises and coordinate emergency responses and staffing changes.
• Ensure compliance with policies, safety protocols, and certifications.
• Conduct routine walkthroughs for safety, supervision, and care quality.
• Oversee client care activities, including safety checks and documentation.
• Complete end-of-shift tasks and prepare for the next shift.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and therapeutic environment for youth and staff.
