Job summary

The Village for Families & Children in Hartford, CT is seeking a dedicated Shift Supervisor to oversee residential program operations at Eagle House. You’ll coordinate staffing, support staff development, and ensure safe, therapeutic interactions with youth in a 24-bed setting serving children with trauma histories.

You will lead crisis response, monitor daily activities, and ensure compliance with program policies and safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma; college degree preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Experience in human services or working with children with special needs preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate shift operations by ensuring staffing and assignments.
  • Monitor daily activities including admissions, discharges, and school transitions.
  • Provide coaching and supervision to staff and promote therapeutic interactions with youth.
  • Respond to crises and coordinate emergency responses during incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, intervention, and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee client care activities and complete end-of-shift debriefings.

Starting hourly rate $24.00 per hour withdifferential pay given for hours worked between 3 PM-7 AM.

  • Tuesday - Saturday 2:00pm - 10:30pm

ABOUT EAGLE HOUSE

Program Overview

  • 24-bed psychiatric residential treatment facility (PRTF) servingchildren ages 6–12
  • Functions as a step-down or diversion from inpatient hospitalization
  • Serves youth with severe emotional and behavioral challengesrelated to significant trauma
  • Average length of stay: 4 months
  • Goal: stabilize youth andprepare them for transition to community-based care, family, or foster placement
  • Provides intensive, trauma-informed care focused on relationship-building and skill development
  • Services include: oPsychiatry and nursing evaluations o Individual, group, and familytherapy o Case management o Therapeutic recreation o Special education services
  • Emphasis on helping youth build emotional regulation, copingskills, and positive interactions with peers and adults
  • Coordinate shift operations by ensuring appropriatestaffing, schedule coverage, assignments, and required equipment forall team members.
  • Monitor daily program activities, including admissions, discharges,transportation, appointments, school transitions, field trips, andspecial events to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Maintain a consistent supervisory presence in the milieu byproviding coaching, mentoring, training, and support to staff whilepromoting therapeutic interactions with youth.
  • Respond to crises and operational needs by coordinating emergencyresponses, staffing adjustments, and serving as the shift leaderduring critical incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with program policies, safety protocols,Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), Risking Connection (RICH),documentation requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct routine walkthroughs to monitor environmental safety, staffperformance, client supervision, program schedules, and the overallquality of care.
  • Oversee completion of required client care activities, includingsafety checks, nursing documentation, hygiene routines, phone calls,and client debriefings.
  • Complete end-of-shift responsibilities, including staff debriefing,parent notifications, client observation reports, incident follow-up,and program readiness for the next shift.
  • Promote a safe, organized, and therapeutic environment bymaintaining common areas, ensuring adequate supplies, and supportingpositive youth and staff interactions.

Experience and Skills

Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in arelated field preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Experience in human services orworking with children with special needs preferred
  • Knowledge of child development and the impact of trauma, abuse, andneglect
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong cultural competence and ability to work with diversepopulations
  • Ability to remain calm, manage stress, and respondsafely in crisis or emergency situations
  • Physically able to supervise children and perform job duties,including physical interventions (holds) when necessary (with orwithout reasonable accommodation)

Required Certifications (or willingness to obtain)

  • First Aid & CPR(American Red Cross)
