Job summary

The Village seeks a Child Development Specialist at Eagle House in the Greater Hartford area. This position supports children ages 6–12 with trauma-related challenges within a 24-bed residential program, Tue-Sat 2:00pm–10:30pm, 8.5-hour shifts with a meal break.

Starting hourly rate is $20.50 with differential pay for hours between 3 PM and 7 AM. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, supervise daily routines, and teach coping skills within a trauma-informed, supportive environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred in a related field.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Experience with children who have special needs is preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development and impact of trauma, abuse, and neglect.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong cultural competence with diverse populations.
  • Ability to stay calm, manage stress, and respond safely in crisis.

Responsibilities

  • Key member of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Supports treatment and educational needs of children with trauma-related challenges.
  • Implements therapeutic behavior management strategies.
  • Teaches and reinforces healthy coping skills aligned with treatment goals.
  • Oversees daily routines (hygiene, meals, structure).
  • Facilitates and participates in recreational group activities.
  • Provides continuous supervision to ensure safety.
  • Builds therapeutic relationships to support emotional regulation and prosocial skills.
  • Transports clients to appointments or community activities.
