Transportation Specialist - Transportation, Transportation Specialist

Job Description for Trans Ops Specialist – NOC INDIA

NOC (Network Operations Center) is the central command and control center for ‘Transportation Execution’ across the Amazon Supply Chain network supporting multiple geographies like NA, India, and EU. It ensures hassle-free, timely pick-up and delivery of freight from vendors to Amazon fulfillment centers (FC) and from Amazon FCs to carrier hubs. In case of any exceptions, NOC steps in to resolve the issue and keeps all stakeholders informed. NOC also analyzes network data to identify trends and proposes process improvements to streamline operations, playing a critical role in ensuring smooth transportation operations and timely customer service.

Purview of a Trans Ops Specialist

A Trans Ops Specialist at NOC facilitates communication between stakeholders (Trans Carriers/Hubs/Warehouses) and resolves issues impacting customer experience and business continuity. The role covers two verticals: Inbound and Outbound operations.

  • Inbound Operations: Manages Vendor/Carrier/FC relationships, ensuring freight pickup and delivery as scheduled. Addresses issues during the freight lifecycle from pickup to delivery.
  • Outbound Operations: Manages FC/Carrier relationships, ensuring trucks leave the FC to meet delivery promises. Resolves issues during freight movement from FC to customer.

The specialist provides timely issue resolution by researching internal tools and making real-time decisions. The candidate should analyze data, recognize trends, and drive customer experience improvements without compromising on time. Basic logistics understanding and clear communication skills are essential. The role also involves ideating and driving process improvements to conclusion.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  1. Communicating with external (Carriers, Vendors/Suppliers) and internal customers (Retail, Finance, Software Support, Fulfillment Centers)
  2. Pulling data from databases (Excel, Access, SQL) for ad hoc reporting and analysis
  3. Developing and understanding performance metrics to improve business results
  4. Defining business and functional requirements for software systems used by NOC
  5. Assessing business impact of trends and making informed decisions
  6. Escalating issues systematically and following through on resolutions
  7. Working within time constraints to meet critical business needs
  8. Communicating findings effectively in written and verbal formats
  9. Providing real-time customer experience in a 24/7 operating environment
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative/technical field such as computer science, engineering, or statistics
  • Experience with Excel and SQL
  • Logistics background and experience in a similar role
