Transportation Security Officers

Transportation Security Officers are responsible for providing security and protection of travelers across all transportation sectors in a courteous and professional manner. Their duties may also extend to securing high-profile events, important figures, and anything that impacts our transportation systems. Qualifications

To qualify for the SV-D pay band (equivalent to GS-5/6), you must meet one of the following:

1. Experience: At least one year of full-time work experience in the security industry, aviation screening, or as an X-ray technician.
2. Education: High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or TASC high school equivalency certificate.

Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited proportionally. Volunteer experience through National Service programs is also credited.

Additional Requirements

• Travel: Occasional travel for training, up to six weeks, paid and reimbursed per TSA policy.
• Selective Service: Verification required for male applicants born after 12/31/59.
• Credit Check: No delinquent taxes or child support payments.
• Residency: Must have resided in the U.S. for three of the last five years, with some exceptions.
• Reemployed Annuitants: Not eligible for certain salary offset waivers.
• Appearance: Must adhere to TSA dress and appearance standards, including covering tattoos and body piercings as specified.

Work Schedules

Full-time positions require 40 hours/week, with shifts including nights, holidays, and weekends. Part-time positions generally range from 16-32 hours/week. Specific schedules are determined by the airport.

Maintaining Employment

• Complete required training and certification.
• Pass background checks and drug screenings.

No travel expenses are paid for employment or application travel. This is not a law enforcement position.
