  • The primary responsibility of a construction safety officer is to ensure all workers on site work in a safe environment and follow all safety procedures.
  • The safety officer collaborates with contractors to identify potential hazards on project sites, including toxic materials, electrocution risks, and structural threats, and works to eliminate or reduce these hazards.
  • The safety officer must be present on site to enforce safety policies, be knowledgeable about safety regulations, and ensure compliance.
  • Additional responsibilities include conducting safety audits and inspections, developing, implementing, and enforcing safety policies, and performing any other tasks assigned by the organization.

Responsibilities:

Construction safety officers perform various functions to ensure a safe environment for workers at a project site. The major tasks include:

  • Conducting daily environmental and safety audits
  • Inspecting and investigating workplace accidents, safety complaints, and hazardous material spills
  • Identifying physical, biological, and chemical hazards at the site
  • Investigating the site to ensure equipment, processes, and materials do not pose safety or health risks
  • Developing, evaluating, and implementing health and safety programs and strategies
  • Collaborating with agencies like OSHA
  • Preparing and submitting safety reports and injury logs to relevant authorities
  • Training and advising employers and stakeholders on workplace safety and environmental protection
  • Creating frameworks to reduce accidents and improve safety
  • Verifying the safety and adequacy of tools and equipment
  • Reviewing and approving subcontractors' safety plans
  • Training workers and conducting drills for emergency preparedness
