Job Description

The Remote Security Officer provides services for a variety of large and small business clients in remote settings where health, safety, and security are our #1 priority. All duties are performed in accordance with NMS’ mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities
  • Personally monitors and patrols assigned buildings, areas, or grounds visually or electronically.
  • Allows only properly authorized individuals to enter the property.
  • Patrols premises, checking doors, windows, and gates for security.
  • Records data such as property damage and unusual occurrences.
  • Warns violators of infractions and may apprehend or expel them.
  • Informs on-site individuals of visitors.
  • Responds to emergencies or disasters to protect life and property.
  • Operates access control systems and maintains visitor logs.
  • Checks operational status of systems like heating, lighting, fire, etc.
  • Provides transportation using various vehicles.
  • Administers emergency medical interventions (CPR, AED) and assists in patient movement.
  • Reports safety and sanitation issues to supervisors.
  • Performs other duties as needed for department success.
  • This role has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least one year of professional security, law enforcement, or military experience.

Post-secondary education in a related field may substitute experience.

  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record for the past three years.
  • Ability to obtain and pay for an Alaska Guard License ($97.00).
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and contract-specific software.
  • Pass pre-employment requirements (drug test, physical, hearing test, etc.).
  • Ability to live in dormitory-style accommodations and meet cleanliness standards.
  • Teamwork and cooperation skills.
  • Ability to make quick decisions independently.
  • Ability to stand for 12 hours per shift.
  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Adherence to safety guidelines and regulations.

Residing outside Anchorage:

Travel expenses for reporting to Anchorage for pre-employment testing are the candidate's responsibility. Specific requirements vary for Lower 48 and Alaska residents.

Remote location travel: Employees cover their expenses for travel to reporting points.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Environment varies; frequently outdoors in arctic weather; noise level moderate to loud.

Physical tasks include sitting, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, seeing, tasting, smelling, and lifting weights.

Fit For Duty Test
  • Lift 20 lbs. from floor to knuckles and waist.
  • Carry 20 lbs. for 20 feet.
  • Kneel and stand repeatedly.
  • Stand from a supine position safely.
  • Perform cross-over toe touches, walk on a treadmill, climb stairs.
