Position Summary:

The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment to effectively safeguard students, employees, Sisters of Charity, visitors, and the physical facilities of the campus communities (USM and Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth). This includes maintaining a highly visible presence to deter crime through vehicle and foot patrols while protecting the property and assets of the campus communities.

Essential Functions:

1. Follow established protocols, policies, procedures, and training necessary to safeguard students, employees, Sisters of Charity, visitors, and campus facilities.
2. Respond to requests for assistance and information in a helpful and courteous manner.
3. Ensure safety and security-related complaints and incidents are responded to appropriately and promptly.
4. Comply with safety, security, and emergency training requirements (e.g., weather-related, fire, medical, CPR, AED).
5. Enforce USM and SCL regulations and policies.
6. Communicate effectively with relevant personnel to address safety and security needs or issues.
7. Conduct foot and vehicle patrols in accordance with USM and SCL policies and protocols.
8. Complete shift activity reports and incident reports accurately and efficiently.
9. Participate in internal and external meetings as needed.
10. Assist Student Development with daily operations at the KLC.
11. Assist with delivering meals to students in quarantine off-campus.
12. Help with store pick-up (Walmart, grocery, pharmacy) for students in quarantine.
13. Transport quarantine students using the university vehicle on and off campus.
14. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Prior security experience.
3. At least 21 years of age at the time of employment.
4. Valid driver’s license and insurability.
5. Ability to pass background and drug screenings.
6. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Public speaking and presentation skills.
8. Problem-solving skills.
9. Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, overnight shifts, and special assignments.
10. Alignment with the mission of the University of Saint Mary and Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth.
