Position Overview:

This role involves processing background check requests for potential sponsors of unaccompanied children, including fingerprint and child abuse and neglect checks. Responsibilities include working with federal or state agencies, compiling information, coordinating deliveries to ACF or designees, timely email responses, evaluating database searches, and serving as an advisory resource based on experience. This is a Ready Reserve position requiring a comprehensive hiring process, including interviews, background checks, and drug screening. Candidates will be placed on a Ready Reserve List for future vacancies.

Primary Areas of Work:
  • Sponsor Checks
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Checks
Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate sponsor and child abuse/neglect checks using established OSSI procedures
  • Interface with federal and state agencies, ACF personnel, and OSSI staff and customers
  • Create graphical and written reports on findings and statistics
  • Present procedures in various formats to stakeholders
  • Travel less than 5% for site visits and training as needed
  • Overcome obstacles to obtain timely, accurate checks
  • Mentor junior specialists
  • Serve as main contact for government requests
  • Provide customer service and communication skills
  • Prepare investigative reports
  • Manage large information volumes
  • Research policies on child protective services checks
  • Respond to requests for information
  • Preference for Spanish language skills or willingness to learn
  • Be sensitive to cultural differences
  • Work independently and handle case loads efficiently
  • Maintain communication with ORR Facility Team
  • Manage case processes: opening, processing, closing, follow-ups
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 2 years experience as an SAI or equivalent
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Willingness to travel up to 5%
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
