Job summary

Horner & Shifrin, Inc. seeks a full-time Project Engineer to join our Transportation team in Illinois. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience and will assist and lead project teams, develop engineering solutions, and deliver comprehensive end products.

The role emphasizes coordination with municipal, county, and state agencies, producing PS&E, and delivering thorough reports. A PE is preferred, with strong communication skills and a valid driver’s license required.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (preferred).
• Ability to lead, manage and schedule staff to meet project needs.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Experience working with the Illinois Department of Transportation and local municipalities (preferred).
• Use of Microsoft Office Products (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must complete a background check.

Responsibilities

• Assigned specific, high-responsibility-level tasks on project teams.
• Resolve engineering problems and tasks as they are assigned, with help as needed from more experienced staff.
• Perform transportation engineering analyses and calculations.
• Prepare and write engineering and other reports.
• Work as part of a team to complete general transportation engineering services for municipal, county, and state agencies.
• Assist in the preparation of reports and feasibility studies.
• Develop engineering plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E).
