Job summary

Fehr & Peers is seeking interns to gain hands-on experience in transportation planning and engineering. Interns will work on projects across traffic operations, bike/pedestrian planning, freight, travel demand modeling, and regional plans, collaborating with staff at all levels.

Availability for semester, summer, or year-long programs is encouraged, with flexible hours aligned to office needs and student availability.

Qualifications

Strong interest or knowledge of transportation planning/engineering principles and practices.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal relationship skills, and presentation skills.
A passion for partnering with and serving the local communities.
Bachelor’s or Master’s in relevant field (e.g., transportation/civil engineering; urban planning; related fields).
Proficiency in software such as Excel, ArcGIS, SketchUp, AutoCAD, TransCAD, or similar tools.

Responsibilities

Analyze/solve complex transportation planning or engineering problems.
Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, including in community engagement settings.
Use software effectively and make timely, informed recommendations.
Work on diverse projects: traffic operations simulations, bike/pedestrian plans, freight and goods movement planning, traffic impact studies, travel demand modeling, transit planning, and regional transportation plans.
Embrace learning opportunities and adopt new tools/technologies while upholding professional judgment and accountability.
