Job summary

Fehr & Peers in Washington, DC area offers an internship program for students seeking hands-on transportation planning experience. Interns work on real projects alongside entry-level staff, with feedback throughout and opportunities to engage with staff at all levels.

Qualifications

Strong interest or knowledge of transportation planning/engineering principles and practices.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal relationship skills, and presentation skills.
A passion for partnering with and serving the local communities.
Current enrollment in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in a related field.
Proficiency in Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, ArcGIS, or traffic/transport modeling software.

Responsibilities

Analyze and solve transportation planning or engineering problems.
Communicate clearly in oral and written form, including in community engagement settings.
Use software effectively and provide timely, informed recommendations.
Work on projects such as traffic operations simulations, bicycle/pedestrian plans, freight movement, and travel demand modeling.
Adopt new tools and technologies while maintaining professional judgment and accountability.
