Job summary

Volkert Inc. in the Gulf Region (Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee) is seeking a Transportation Engineer in Training to support roadway and traffic design efforts.

The role requires a BS in Civil Engineering, an EIT, and 2–4 years of experience with DOT/MUTCD/AASHTO familiarity. You will collect data, develop studies, and assist with OpenRoads design and traffic signal plans while helping build client relationships.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering.
• EIT (E.I.) Certification.
• 2-4 years of experience.
• Familiarity with DOT design standards, MUTCD, and AASHTO.
• Self-starter capable of completing tasks with minimal oversight.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Willingness to develop a personal client base.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze data for inclusion in project plans, reports, and studies.
• Assist with traffic impact studies, access requests, safety studies, signal warrants, land use and master plan studies.
• Prepare roadway design plans using OpenRoads Designer.
• Develop traffic signal design plans for new intersections and signal modifications.
• Work on TMPs, signing and pavement marking plans.
• Prepare conceptual intersection layouts, schematics, and signal timings.
• Contribute to engineering reports and calculations for various projects.
• Prepare project quantities, costs, specifications and schedules.
• Review estimates, calculations and drawings for compliance.
• Attend project meetings with clients and learn budgets; may participate in business development.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
