Job summary

Horrocks is seeking a Professional Engineer for Drainage to lead hydrology and hydraulic design for DOT projects. The role involves preparing studies, plans, and cost estimates, and collaborating with a cross-disciplinary team to deliver transportation projects on time.

You will interface with state and local agencies, coordinate meetings, and assist in proposals while managing scope, schedule, and budgets for new work. Strong communication and project-management skills are essential.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited civil engineering degree.
• PE registration required.
• 4–7 years hydraulics design experience.
• Design of roadway drainage and flood control facilities.
• Experience with ORD Drainage and utilities (e.g., StormCAD, PondPack, HEC-HMS/HEC-RAS).
• Familiarity with DOT/AASHTO/FHWA criteria and guidelines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Perform and direct a variety of hydrology and hydraulic design work for DOT projects (bridges, roadways, highways, freeways).
• Prepare studies, reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for transportation projects.
• Work within a team of project managers, engineers, technicians, and support staff to complete projects.
• Interface with clients including state and local agencies.
• Coordinate and conduct meetings with project stakeholders.
• Coordinate with office management and other project managers to share resources.
• Assist in proposal preparation including oral presentations.
• Prepare the scope, schedule, and budget for new projects.
• Ability to meet project deadlines.
