CONSTRUCTION SERVICES PRACTICE

Michael Baker International’s Construction Services team supports clients by acting as their trusted on-site agent throughout all phases of construction, from pre-design to close-out. We provide qualified construction managers, inspectors, constructability reviewers, schedulers, estimators, and safety experts. As new technologies evolve in the construction industry, innovative ideas are essential to deliver successful projects.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Michael Baker is seeking Transportation Construction Inspectors to join our team in Mercer! Reporting to the Project Supervisor, the Construction Inspector will monitor and document that roadway and/or bridge projects are built according to plans and specifications. Responsibilities include:

1. Inspect various aspects of work on bridge or roadway construction sites
2. Take field measurements and perform calculations
3. Prepare inspection reports
4. Verify the use of appropriate materials and construction processes
5. Ensure construction conforms to plans, specifications, and special provisions
6. Perform other duties as assigned

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• 1-4 years of experience in a construction-related field
• Experience with PennDOT or Pennsylvania Turnpike highway and/or bridge projects is preferred but not required
• Certifications such as ACI Field Technician, PennDOT Concrete Technician, NECEPT Field Technician, NICET in Highway Construction, ECMS Wave 5, Materials Testing, Bridge Inspection, Troxler Nuclear Gauge are preferred but not mandatory
• Proficiency with iPad preferred for ECMS and CDS/NeXtGen systems
• Basic math skills for measurements of length, area, and volume
• Availability for various shifts, including night shifts; overtime often required
• Overnight travel may be necessary; position may be seasonally laid off

COMPENSATION

The estimated hourly rate ranges from $29 to $31.67, depending on experience and certifications. Actual compensation depends on education, qualifications, experience, skills, and work location.
