Job summary

Quanta-Services (QISG) is seeking a Design Engineer I to support overhead transmission line design and related engineering work. You will use CAD tools to produce scaled drawings, perform analyses, and draft engineering documents for high‑voltage projects.

The role requires a Civil/Structural or Mechanical background with ABET accreditation, familiarity with NESC/IEEE/ANSI/IBC codes, and willingness to travel up to 10%. A robust benefits package accompanies the position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, or similar CAD tools.
• Understanding of design codes and standards (NESC, IEEE, ANSI, IBC).
• Knowledge of engineering drafting and design principles.

Responsibilities

• Support all engineering responsibilities related to overhead transmission line design, including PLS-CADD modeling, line routing, structure analysis and loading trees, sag-tension calculations, wire blowout, swing angle, damper.
• Utilize AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, and other CAD software for scaled drawings and mapping.
• Implement engineering redlines with precision and ensure accuracy before finalizing drafting/drawing.
• Conduct engineering calculations, including voltage drop, cable pulling, flicker analysis, and pole loading assessments.
• Prepare joint utility use authorizations based on field data and engineer redlines.
• Ensure compliance with local regulations, design codes (NESC, IEEE, ANSI, IBC), and construction standards.
• Work collaboratively with engineers and project teams to develop solutions and modifications as needed.
• Maintain detailed project documentation and support engineering calculations.
• Work a minimum of 40 hours per week, with potential for up to 50 hours and occasional overtime.
