Job summary

WSP is seeking a Deputy Project Manager for our New York City office to lead transportation and infrastructure projects, providing strategic direction and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams to deliver design and construction deliverables in line with codes and client requirements. The role requires 10+ years in transit/rail engineering, a professional license, and proven leadership in project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 10+ years of relevant post-education experience in engineering, transit and rail.
  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Project management and quality management experience leading a team.
  • Proficiency with transportation and infrastructure engineering principles and design/build processes.
  • Advanced proficiency with technical computations and reading plans/specifications.
  • Ability to guide mid- to senior-level staff with QA/QC adherence.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented with prioritization under pressure.
  • Ability to coordinate with regulators, clients, and internal teams.
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software and office automation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide proactive leadership for transportation and infrastructure disciplines.
  • Lead large, complex projects with budgets, hours, and subcontractor oversight.
  • Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation and meetings.
  • Ensure profitable project performance and successful completion.
  • Develop and improve discipline certifications and value propositions.
  • Conduct needs analyses and align engineering with strategy.
  • Schedule meetings and disseminate updates to ensure discipline excellence.
  • Develop proposals, scopes, timelines, and budgets compliant with codes.
  • Interpret data and produce sound regulatory conclusions.
  • Contribute strategic advice to clients and mentor staff.
  • Ensure safety and QA/QC across projects.
  • Stay current with transit/rail engineering techniques and practices.
