Job summary

WSP is seeking a Deputy Project Manager for our New York City, NY office to lead transportation and infrastructure projects. You will provide strategic direction, manage budgets, oversee subcontractors, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance across local, state, and federal standards.

You will mentor staff, coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, and translate client needs into actionable programs while maintaining high quality standards and profitable delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 10+ years of post-education experience in engineering, transit and rail
• Engineer license is required (multi-state preferred).
• Project management and quality management experience leading teams.
• Proficiency with transportation and infrastructure engineering principles and design/build.
• Advanced mathematical computations and regulatory interpretation.
• Independent worker with leadership across mid to senior level staff and QA/QC adherence.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills across levels.
• Ability to adapt to schedules and travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Provide proactive leadership for transportation and infrastructure engineering and project delivery.
• Lead large, complex projects, manage budgets, hours, expenses, and subcontractors.
• Lead contract negotiations, presentations, and client meetings.
• Ensure profitable performance and on-time completion of projects.
• Develop discipline certifications, accreditations, and value propositions.
• Perform needs analyses and align engineering with strategy and skill mapping.
• Schedule discipline meetings and inform proposals, scopes, timelines, and budgets.
• Interpret data and summarize for sound engineering and regulatory conclusions.
• Contribute to multi-disciplinary teams and provide strategic client advice.
• Mentor staff and provide performance guidance.
• Stay current with transit and rail engineering techniques and practices.
• Collaborate across disciplines to deliver future-ready solutions.
