Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Civil Engineer to join our Northeast Civil Transportation team in New York City. You will lead design efforts for NYC-based site civil transportation projects and guide data collection, analyses, and coordination across disciplines to meet safety and regulatory standards.

You will oversee teams, manage budgets and schedules, and coordinate with agencies and clients to deliver high-quality infrastructure solutions from concept through construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and civil design.
• Engineer license required.
• Experience delivering projects for New York public agencies including MTA, NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NYCDDC and Port Authority of NY & NJ.
• Proficient with civil engineering principles, design/build, and permitting and project work-related issues.
• Extensive knowledge of infrastructure design.
• Experience with design, construction management; rehabilitation and new design projects.
• Knowledge of civil construction laws, codes, regulations, and record-keeping requirements.
• Ability to perform technical computations and interpret plans and specs against regulations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Self-leadership with attention to detail and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to work independently and lead junior team members with QA/QC.
• Proficiency with Civil 3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads, and related tools.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving to derive optimal solutions.
• Experience coordinating subcontractors and delegating tasks safely and efficiently.
• Track record of safety and compliance with company policies.
• Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to the design of NYC-based site civil transportation projects including highways and transit infrastructure.
• Guide data collection, surveys, and analyses for project development and design.
• Apply high-level civil engineering techniques to improve project phases from concept to construction.
• Perform professional civil engineering work and assess site conditions against regulations.
• Develop construction plans, specs, and cost estimates with coordination across disciplines.
• Oversee design and construction across multiple projects with budgets and QA/QC.
• Coordinate and approve infrastructure design plans ensuring code compliance.
• Prepare data visualizations, tables, charts, and analysis illustrations.
• Draft technical reports and presentations explaining research and recommendations.
• Analyze field data to develop risk mitigation and action plans.
• Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
• Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
• Collaborate with engineers, planners, and authorities on funded projects and opportunities.
• Stay current with civil engineering techniques and best practices.
