Job summary

The New York City Department of Transportation’s Transit Development (TD) unit is seeking Transportation Specialists to support bus priority initiatives and Planning & Policy activities in TPM. You will assist with planning, design, and implementation of in-house bus priority projects, plus reviews for capital projects and analysis to improve bus stops and transit access.

Expect outreach to the public, workshops, and engagement with community boards, with occasional evening and weekend work.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in transportation engineering, mathematics, urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban studies, or related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with one year of full-time satisfactory experience on roadway transportation and traffic studies.
  • Bachelor's degree with two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described.
  • Associate degree/60 credits with four years of full-time satisfactory experience.
  • Four-year high school diploma or equivalent with six years of full-time satisfactory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design and implement in-house bus priority projects.
  • Conduct conceptual design and design reviews for capital projects.
  • Perform planning analysis related to improving bus stops and transit access.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including MTA.
  • Engage in outreach with the public, community boards and at public workshops, including occasional evenings/weekends.
  • Develop proficiency in GIS, traffic analysis software, and CAD to support transportation planning analysis.
